A couple of weeks ago Zita, my friend from Sydney (Australia), has visited Budapest. Her parents are Hungarian so it was not her first time to Budapest. Walking in the downtown she went to this wonderful confectionary (patissiere) called Lukács Cukrászda.

She really loved it, fresh cakes, proper service but when she got the bill for her coffee she got really suprised.:) Well Lukács is really a wonderful place but they sell everything for gold-price!

The Lukács Cukrászda has opened originally in 1912 on the elegant Andrássy street in Budapest. It was a popular place among the local establishment, playing an important role of the cultural life of Budapest that time.

After the World War II. just like almost everything that active social life has disappeared from these legendary cafés. The age of Lukács Cukrászda was over, they called the place during the socialism as "különlegességi cukrászda".

In 1996 the CIB Bank has bought the building which hosted Lukács . The transaction had one condition...they had to renovate the café after the original style and they have to run it. The rest part of the building is a bank now.

I find Lukács very beautiful, their products are really always fresh and the service is proper...but to be honest I don't like that place. Something is missing...the warmth of heart. They are just like their website...cold and correct.
