The Budapest Summer Festival is a traditional cultural event on Margaret Island and at Városmajor. All tastes and age groups will be catered for, as performances range from the Broadway musical Elton John: Aida to musical theatre productions and Sunday morning entertainment for children. There will also be comedy, ballet and concerts of light music.

One of the highlights of the season will be the world première of a new musical written by team of talented young Hungarians: Dracula will be staged on Margaret Island, and stars Tibor Pintér and Nikolet Gallusz.

Margaret Island will also be the scene for the majority of the season’s concerts and musical productions: Al Di Meola promoting his new album, Klezmer Magic Show, 100-Member Gipsy Orchestra, Cotton Club Singers, Irish Dance Experience, and the Nagyida Gipsies, the ExperiDance Dance Spectacular.

Major productions to be staged at Városmajor include Moulin Rouge, a Hungarian musical starring János and Réka Koós, Tempefői with Frigyes Hollósi and Piroska Molnár, Madame Sans-Gene with Bernadette Gregor, also Róbert Koltai and András Kern in Out of Order, performances of the ever popular musicals Grease, Hair and The Attic, as well as a welcome return of The Sound of Music. 

Margaret Island Open Air Stage

Budapest, XIII. district, Margaret Island

The Margaret Island Open Air Stage is situated on the northern tip of one of the largest public parks of Budapest and one of the most beautiful parks of Europe. It was built in 1938 based on the plans of Péter Kaffka. The stage has a capacity of more than 3000. You can walk to the Island or use the No 26 bus from either the Margaret bridge or the Árpád bridge. The last bus leaves from the island at 23:00 in the period between May 1. and October 1.

Ticket counters are open from Wednesday to Sunday from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., on days of performances from 4 P.M. till the start of the performance.
